Questions to ask yourself to help you choose the right countertop:
Before I get started on the different types of countertops, you will want to ask yourself three questions. These will help you decide which material is best for your style and needs:
- How often do you use the surface and what will you use it for? Do you prep three or more meals a day, or are you an occasional chef? Is it for a heavily used bathroom or a guest bathroom?
- How much do you want to spend? Think about how much of your budget you want to invest in countertops. Are you looking to add value to your house? Are you looking for a product that will last a lifetime? What other costs to remodel your area will you need to account for?
- What is your personal style and what look do you want to create in your home? Your style and color scheme are a key factor in selecting the right countertops. If you are keeping your existing cabinetry, you will want to first decide if you are changing your cabinet color. Luckily, you will have a variety of colors, hues, and designs to choose from in whatever countertop material you choose. Different countertop options to look at when choosing the right countertop:
Cambria Quartz Countertops
When you first walk into our showroom, you will find Cambria design samples everywhere! One of the reasons we became a Cambria Premier Dealer is because of the stunning look each design offers. We also loved the fact that they are a family owned American made company who sell an outstanding product! To ensure the strongest slabs, Cambria makes their countertops using the highest concentration of up to 93% pure quartz, which they mine themselves. We have all 150+ Premier Dealer designs in our showroom and have a variety of kitchen and bath displays as well. You will also see several larger size slabs to help you see first-hand the true beauty of Cambria.
Having Cambria installed in your home increases your home’s value due to the high quality of material. Cambria contains up to 93% quartz particulates with 7% binder and pigment color. In other words, what this means to a consumer is that your countertop is made from one of the hardest minerals on earth! As a result, Cambria is non-porous, stain and scratch resistance, heat resistant, and is maintenance free! Due to the hardness of Cambria, you will dull your knife if you cut on it! As with any countertop, if anything is too hot for you to touch, you need to use a trivet to protect your countertop. We know what a great product Cambria offers to its customers and we want to give you the opportunity to bring this amazing product in your home! To top it off, Cambria offers a transferrable lifetime guarantee on all products!

Every project is unique and therefore requires different features to account for in pricing. For instance, if you have an island, a bar area, or if you would like a Cambria backsplash will affect the price. It is important for us to give you the most accurate quote, so you know up front the correct cost. After Paul, the owner, takes measurements, we can give you a quote that is correct with no hidden fees. I visited Blasius Inc., the only fabricator of Cambria in Michigan, to help me understand what sets Cambria apart from other countertops. I saw the lengths Blasius’s goes through to make sure that every piece of Cambria is cut with precision and ready for installation. Cambria’s price reflects the durability, strength, quality, and their outstanding warranty of their product! You can find additional information about Cambria and Cambia’s financing on our website.
Corian Solid Surface Countertops
Corian Solid Surface is another popular countertop material you should consider when choosing the right countertop. The first thing you will notice is it comes in a matte finish which will create a smooth and unique look to any area. Corian is made from acrylic and resin and can be formed into any shape needed to complete your project. Many customers also are interested in the fact that Corian can be used to create a beautiful seamless shower.
Some of the benefits of having a Corian countertop include it is non-porous, stain resistant, and easy to clean with no seams! As a result, Corian, has a flowing seamless look that creates a beautiful appearance for your kitchen, bath, sinks, covered backsplashes, and showers. In addition, it comes in a variety of colors and hues for you to choose the best design for your area. Another important feature to note, if your countertop happens to get a scratch, it can easily be buffed out as Corian has solid color throughout! With Corian, you have your choice of an integrated Corian sink, a stainless steel undermount sink, or a ceramic undermount sink. Additional information about Corian and the different designs offered can be found at https://www.corian.com/.
Price: Corian is a manmade product and therefore tends to be less expensive than Cambria. It comes with a 10-year guarantee and is a wonderful product that can create a beautiful look in any kitchen or bath!
Americast Durastone Vanity Tops and Showers
If you are looking for a bathroom vanity and/or a shower to match, Durastone is also a great choice. For example, we had a customer who went straight to one of our Durastone displays in our showroom. She kept saying how she loved the look of the vanity top and how she liked that it was all one piece, including backsplash and sink.
Durastone is completely seamless with a beautiful matte or gloss finish that is easy to clean and maintain. As a result, it is nonporous and if scratches occur can be repaired. Another benefit is that it can be made into any shape and size you need to create the look you are after, as well as, keeping functionality in mind.
Americast, the maker of Durastone, carries a ten-year limited warranty on all its products and is made in Michigan. It is a great product that can help you stay within your budget.
Laminate is another option that is in a lot of homes today. We carry top-of-the-line laminate designs that come in a wide range of color, texture, and design options! We work with an awesome company who does our laminate installations! First, Larry will come out to your home and do all the measurements needed. He will then put your countertop together in his workshop. As soon as he is finished, he will come back and install your beautiful countertop!
The main benefit of laminate countertops is the cost friendliness to your budget, and you still get a great product! Laminate countertops are easy to clean, stain resistant and nonporous and comes in many styles and colors. One of the benefits of purchasing laminate from Captain’s Cabinetry is that you know that we only sell top-of-the-line laminates that are thicker and less likely to chip. As with most countertops, you will have to use a hot pad to protect the countertop from scorching. You will also want to use a cutting board when cutting food, to protect your countertop from scratch marks.
Laminate countertops are budget-friendly and are a great option to upgrade the look of any kitchen, bath, or laundry area.
To sum it up, you can see there are many different types of countertops for you to compare. First asking yourself the three questions, will help you decide which option is right for your home remodel. Most importantly, we realize this decision process can feel overwhelming. Know that with our experience and knowledge, we are here to help you choose the right countertop! We take pride in working with you to make the remodeling process run as smoothly as possible.
